It’s been getting tougher and tougher. First of all, when I first arrived I was beyond happy and excited to be here, but then the first week (inscription week) turned out to be a nightmare, it was really awful, an unbelievable mess and everybody was extremely rude and unhelpful. Then the first month/month and a half was fine, the workload was fair and I had a lot of free time to enjoy Paris and it was really good.
Now that it’s nearly the end of the semester, it’s really, really tough. To begin with I am physically very tired, mostly from the journey to uni everyday; it takes me up to 50 minutes each day, with a lot of walking and stairs, and not only has it become super repetitive every single day, it’s also extremely exhausting. Also, I have a lot of hours and twice a week I end at 9pm, which means I get home at 10pm and still have to cook for myself and have class at dawn the next morning. I’m feeling physically very weak from all that, and on top of that I’m in the middle of exam week, which I’m very stressed about because exams are going to be really challenging. I end next Friday, so in 9 days, which is technically close but I’m so tired and homesick that it feels ages away and I only finish like 3 days before Christmas.
When it comes to the classes, I’m a little disappointed, as there are a couple that are really very interesting and well thought-out (I’ve even had to drop out of two because they were too tough), but most of my classes are very superficial and quite silly and many teachers seem to be not only incredibly rude but also quite incompetent, which I was not expecting from la Sorbonne.
Anyway, I guess I am ranting because it’s the end of the semester and I’m extremely tired and homesick, but really I am very grateful to be here.
